Tip: Smartphone - Proactively Protect Mobile Data

Got the backup thing down in your office? Then why don't you have a system in place for your handheld? Losing a BlackBerry or Windows Mobile device these days could be as devastating as having your laptop swiped. Lost data files are one thing, hijacked sensitive information such as passwords and account numbers add a whole additional level of anxiety.

If you've got a smartphone from your company, check with your IT department that they've got a system in place to lock or wipe your device in the event it is lost of stolen. But if you're working in a SOHO environment where you are your IT department, find a good software match for your own protection.

Link2Exchange serves corporate clients but could be right for you. Another option is Trend Micro Mobile Security. A complete security and anti-malware/spam package comes from Kaspersky Mobile Security.

What you want to find is a combination of every-day protections such as antivirus and anti-spam software along with the remote-access actions necessary to clear off your device from your computer in the event the former is lost or stolen.
