Mobile developer Zumobi has partnered with outdoor gear retailer REI to come up with a mobile-friendly snow report app for western slopes. The free REI Snow Report gives snow accumulation over 24, 48 or 72 hour periods for specific mountains as well as details about whether the slopes are open, how many lifts are running and what the current conditions are. Webcams at certain mountains can be accessed from the app, too.

The heavily branded app works on BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and iPhone systems. To get it, visit http://rei.zumobi.com on your handheld or from your PC visit the website my.zumobi.com/partner/rei to send a text message or email with download instructions.

In related news, another new Zumobi offering lets you customize your NPR listening habits and have content delivered directly to your Windows Mobile or BlackBerry smartphone.

Using the tile-based Zumobi user interface, the free app lets you choose from news, sports or other content from the network or widgets from your local member station.

On your handheld, your Zumobi quadrants can reflect npr.org categories such as top stories, politics, and music, or whatever means the most to you.

While many NPR stations have streaming from their Web sites, as does the national portal, Zumobi gives you the option to put various selections on your phone so when you really don't want the breaking news you can hear the latest music features. Or whatever.

It's just another way to customize your consumption (further threatening terrestrial radio, some might say).
