Nokia E-Mail Service Enters Beta

Nokia has gone live with its new Mail on Ovi e-mail service for Nokia Series 40 phones.

According to the company, Mail on Ovi is the first e-mail service to let customers open an account directly on a mobile phone rather than a PC, as traditional "push" services typically require.

"We're creating a mindset shift with mobile messaging," said Tom Furlong, Nokia's senior vice president. "Mail on Ovi is the first-ever e-mail service that allows people to create an account directly on their mobile phone, and start using it right away."

The service supports 12 languages, including German, French, Tagalog, Hindi and Bengali. Nokia says the e-mail service targets emerging markets, where users may be using e-mail for the first time.
