AT&T Offering TeleNav Vehicle Tracker

AT&T will now offer TeleNav's vehicle tracker on its wireless network, the company reported today. The $399 TeleNav Vehicle Tracker—an embedded GPS modem that is attached to a vehicle (such as a delivery or plumbing service truck)—is password-protected and managed in-house through a Web-based management console.

"This offering builds on TeleNav's industry-leading mobile resource management solution and provides businesses the ability to actively manage their vehicles, enhance workforce utilization and provide better service," said Igor Glubochansky, director, Industry Solutions for AT&T, in a statement.

According to TeleNav, the device, which provides data on a vehicle's location in near real-time, ensures driver safety by allowing companies to monitor speed and mileage.

Because TeleNav Vehicle Tracker is only available on a small "black box" computer/GPS receiver/cellular modem that is mounted out of sight in the vehicle, there is no user/driver interface. For that purpose, AT&T has long offered a phone tracking solution called TeleNav Track, which is compatible with a number of the carrier's phones.

Both solutions, TeleNav Vehicle Tracker and Telenav Track, can be displayed on the same TeleNav Track "dispatcher's" screen so that person can "see" both handsets in the worker's hands as well as the vehicles on the same map.
