Update: HP Cancels iPAQ 610 Business Navigator

By James Alan Miller
February 14, 2008

HP’s decided to cancel the iPAQ 610 Business Navigator, one of five new devices introduced by the printer and computer giant last fall. This Windows Mobile Professional smartphone was supposed to ship late last year, but became delayed and now cancelled due to production and supply issues.

HP sent out the following note yesterday yesterday:

You recently registered via HP’s website to be notified when the HP iPAQ 610 Business Navigator is available to purchase.

We appreciate your interest in this product. However, due to recent legal issues between suppliers of mobile phone technologies, HP has decided not to offer the iPAQ 610 Business Navigator to U.S. customers as previously planned.

Please consider other HP products that may meet your needs and at significant discounts!

While it’s clear the iPAQ 610—also called the iPAQ 614, 614c and 600— won’t make it stateside, it is still not clear when or if the smartphone will ship elsewhere in the world.

Update: It seems the cancelling of the iPAQ 610 only applies to the U.S. market. HP still lists it on their UK site, for instance. The smartphone still isn't available yet, however.

Without the iPAQ 610, folks in the U.S. will be missing out on one of HP’s latest quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE smartphones with support for tri-band UMTS/HSDPA 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (with support for VoIP), and Assisted GPS for location-based services.

It's got a 2.8-inch, 240 x 320 pixel (QVGA) resolution touch screen. There's also a 3 megapixel camera with auto focus and 4x zoom and a microSD slot for storage expansion.

Inside is a 520MHz Marvell PXA270 processor, 128MB of RAM, 256MB of ROM, and a 1840 mAH Lithium Ion battery.

Unique to the iPAQ 610 is a numeric keypad with an iPod-like touch-sensitive scroll wheel integrated right in the middle.

HP planned on asking $600 for the iPAQ 610.
