By SmartPhoneToday Staff
Devices running on Windows Mobile 6 and the Symbian OS with the UIQ interface (mostly Sony Ericsson smartphones) can now access Boingo's network of Wi-Fi hotspots.
Before this software update, Boingo only supported Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5 platform and Symbian smartphones with the Nokia's S60 interface. Users can connect to any Boingo hotspot with a single Boingo account using Boingos free Wi-Fi client software. The service for mobile devices like Windows Mobile and Symbian-based smartphones costs $7.95 per month. That is unless your an iPhone user. In that case, you can access Boingo's Wi-Fi network for free. Laptop users must pay $21.95 per month. Boingo's network contains more than 11,000 hotspots in the U.S. and 100,000 hotspots worldwide from roughly 150 leading Wi-Fi operators, including Wayport. Speaking of Wayport, Boingo and Wayport announced an extension of their partnership for another three years. The deal enables Boingo subscribers to access Wayports entire North American network of Wi-Fi hotspots, including more than 9,000 newly-added McDonalds restaurants. As a neutral host, Wayport enables wireless carriers, ILECs, ISPs, device manufacturers, and aggregators (such as Boingo) to offer their own branded Wi-Fi experience to their subscribers through Wayports Wi-Fi locations.
