Videos Show Google Android Running on a Sharp Zaurus

Sure, Google's Android platform is meant for phones. But that hasn't stopped the software consultants over at eu.edge from getting the smartphone operating system (OS) to run on a Sharp Zaurus SL-C760l, a PDA without any type of cellular-wireless connectivity whatsoever. Like Android, the platform the Zaurus usually runs on is Linux-based, however.

An explanation on how they did this is available here. You'll even find instructions on how to get it working, just in case you've got a Zaurus andt to give the process a go yourself.

In addition to publishing a how-to guide, eu.edge has posted a couple of videos showing Android running on the Zaurus—on Google Video, of course. One video (top below) shows the Zaurus giving Android the slow boot, the second (bottom) demos some Android applications running on the device.

As they point out, since Android was designed for the Zaurus and visa versa, you shouldn't use these videos to judge both the platform and the PDA's capabilities. After all, just because a Zaurus has been Androidized, it doesn't make it a so-called 'gPhone.'
