Digital music provider Puretracks plans to roll out a DRM-free mobile music store for BlackBerry, the first such service for RIM's smartphone, in partnership with Magnet Mobile Media. It announced the service at the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas this week. Puretracks says the new mobile music store, which will debut in the United States with future roll-out plans slated for Canada and other markets, will feature a broad selection of songs from mainstream and independent artists. Future additions will include support for Wi-Fi capable handsets, enabling BlackBerry users to download audio over Wi-Fi connections. Tracks will be offered in the AAC/AAC+ file formats.
