Says It Ain't So Walt - Tech Guru Doesn’t Know 3G iPhone Ship Date After All

By James Alan Miller
April 9, 2008

A few days ago, a video clip where The Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg flatly stated the iPhone "will be 3G in 60 days" made the rounds, sending the Internet rumor mill into a frenzy. Sounds definitive, doesn't it? Well, a puzzled Mossberg, speaking with the Silicon Alley Insider, says he doesn't really know anymore than anyone else on the matter—as he's got the same information as rest of us—and doesn't understand all the hubbub surrounding what he said on camera.

To him, his statement about the next-gen iPhone coming in a couple of months, was an offhand comment - nothing more, nothing less. As to whether it's accurate, he has no idea, and doesn't really care, as it won't affect how he reviews the next-gen iPhone. Furthermore, he added, "If I knew when this date was, why would I announce it in the middle of a sentence at the Finnish embassy, rather than report it in the Wall Street Journal?"
