WorldMate Gains Social Networking Feature

MobiMate has updated WorldMate Live for BlackBerry, the Swiss Army Knife of mobile travel software, with a new social networking feature, called Connections, and improved calendar syncing.

Through Connections, members request to connect with each other within the WorldMate's address book and then the WorldMate Live system will track each itinerary and push updates when schedule locations overlap. The idea, according to MobiMate, is to enable travelers to catch up with old friends and colleagues nearby while they are on the road.

“Business travelers are busy and often don’t have time to keep in touch with their friends and colleagues as much as they’d like,” said WorldMate CEO Nadav Gur in a statement. “Our aim with Connections is to make it easier for our members to maintain and extend relationships on a personal level when they’re away from home.

"By facilitating unplanned get-togethers—whether two people are attending the same conference or have just enough time for a quick meeting at the airport bar—we can help them reach meaningful and profitable outcomes,” added Gur.

WorldMate Live also adds a new calendar sync feature, which connects the application's calendar directly to the BlackBerry calendar. This service allows you to use one calendar while traveling, as all itinerary items including flight information, hotel reservations and meetings are automatically updated in all three locations.

WorldMate Live “pushes” real-time notifications, tracking every trip and sending alerts about flight delays and cancellations, meeting updates and other useful information. WorldMate products also feature other travel resources, such as flight schedules, weather forecasts, travel directories, maps, world clocks, a currency converter, etc

The application is offered as a ‘Freemium’ service, with most components and services provided to end users at no cost. Premium services, including flight alerts, flight status and schedules, travel directory and customer support, are available for a monthly or annual fee.
