Already offered by Sprint, AT&T, and (since June 13) Verizon Wireless, Palm's Centro smartphone is now available at none of the above: Palm now offers U.S. customers an unlocked GSM version, flaunting a new white-with-gray-accents color scheme and priced at $299.

The company has also announced that Google Maps for mobile with My Location for Centro will be available as a free download starting today. The new feature makes it easier for Centro users to get mapping and direction information by approximating the user's current location on the map.

Google Maps also offers traffic information in more than 30 U.S. major metropolitan areas; driving directions with traffic estimates; one-touch recall of favorite locations and routes; integrated search results for business locations; and the ability to scan and drag maps using Centro's touch screen.
