Over the last few weeks, there's been much speculation that Sony Ericsson's highly-anticipated Xperia X1 is delayed, possibly until next year. The smartphone, announced in Februrary, is supposed to ship during the fourth quarter of 2008. "There is absolutely no delay. The product is on track," according to Sony Ericsson's Merran "We have said it will roll out in Q4 and we are on target to do that."

You may be asking yourself: What's so special about the Xperia X1? First off, the Windows Mobile-run smartphone is a major change of pace for Sony Ericsson, a company that usually builds smartphones on the Symbian OS and its own UIQ platform.

Second, it sports a unique arc slider design. So when you slide up the Xperia X1's high-resolution 3-inch, WVGA (840 x 480-pixel) touch screen, a wide QWERTY thumb-keyboard is revealed.
