On the way to drop my daughter off at school this morning, I thought I'd check my e-mail on my iPhone. No luck. I then launched Safari to see if I'd have any better luck there. Then I saw this post on Engadget and reports from users in the AT&T forums (see here).

It turns out I'm not the only one having trouble connecting to AT&T's network. The problem, both with EDGE and 3G, appears to be widespread, affecting areas like here in St. Louis, Boston, New York northern Virginia and Washington DC.

A number of AT&T customers are reporting seeing full bars, but not getting any data connectivity.

As of 10:15 central, I'm still having the same problem in St. Louis.

AT&T has informed Engadget that they're aware of the problem. We pinged them as well and will update this post when we hear back from them. Stay tuned for more information.

Update: AT&T fixed the problem a few minutes shy of 12:00PM this morning. It blamed the outage on a routing issue in the Northeast.
