Dial Directions DEMOs Speech Recognition for the iPhone

A number of mobile and iPhone-related applications were on display at the DEMO conference this week. Among them was Say Where from Dial Directions. What's significant about this title is the first app to bring speech recognition to the iPhone.

The idea behind Say Where is to allow users to use their voice rather than text to search popular Web sites for mapping, business search and reviews. So, instead of typing, iPhone users just speak any "place" (e.g. address, business or point of interest) that interests them. They then choose a mobile site to launch.

Say Where is powered by Dial Directions' proprietary voice-entry technology for mobile services and devices. It is currently being reviewed by Apple. When it is approved, Say Where will be available for free through the iTunes App Store.
