With reports growing that HTC would roll out an Android G2 mobile phone soon, the smartphone vendor has taken the wraps off the stylish HTC-S743 in the meantime. The Windows Mobile unit features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

HTC will distribute the unlocked HTC-S743 in the first quarter of 2009 to retailers such as Dell and CDW. The HTC-S743 is the first HTC handheld to be sold through independent channels in the United States.

The HTC-S743 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 and syncs with Microsoft Exchange. In addition to the horizontal slider keyboard, there’s a 12-key keypad.

It is not a touch screen phone. The display measures 2.4 inches diagonally.

"While others are content focusing on a single design or user interface, HTC is dedicated to bringing the benefits of mobile convergence to all consumers, without forcing them to use a device that doesn't truly fit their lifestyle," said Jason Mackenzie, vice president of HTC America, in a statement. "The HTC S743, which packs high-design and high-performance into a trim 4.9 ounce package, is a great example of HTC's rejection of a 'one-size-fits-all' philosophy."

The S743 measures 4.6 x 1.7 x 0.6 inches.

There's also a 3.2 megapixel camera and Wi-Fi. No 3G, though.
