On the heels of the $400 Eee PC laptop introduced about a year ago, Asus may be readying an Eee smartphone.

Industry reports say the Asus Eee could be based on the Google Android or Windows Mobile OS and available in the first half of this year.

According to the The New York Times, Asus Chairman Johnny Shih sees the future phone as low cost and able to serve as a remote control for the living room.
