January 21, 2009

On Monday IBM and Research In Motion (RIM) announced a deal to place a new series of Lotus software on BlackBerry smartphones. The new apps will feature collaboration and developer tools.

The two companies made the announcement at the Lotusphere enterprise IT conference in Orlando, Fla.

With the new software, smartphone users will be able to access Lotus Symphony presentations and spreadsheets as well as office documents, photos and videos. IBM will also offer IBM Lotus Domino Designer and XPages for developers to create new applications for BlackBerry devices.

The two companies say the new features will be rolled out gradually throughout the year.
