Text to Fight Hunger

By Amy Mayer
January 23, 2009

Before you plunk down a fiver for a snack, a gigantic coffee or your next mobile download, consider helping alleviate hunger in America with your phone. Text the word "share" to 20222 from your mobile device and you'll be charged a one-time fee of $5.

AT&T will match your donation and the total goes to Share our Strength, which will use the money to provide food for children at risk of hunger and to help boost supplies at food banks, which are experiencing increased demand this year.

The wireless carrier will match donations to a maximum of $100,000 from its own reserves. The program is a coordinated effort between Share Our Strength and the Mobile Giving Foundation.

For more ways to give from your phone, visit the Mobile Giving Foundation's list of charities.
