Happy New Year! In 2009 the smartphone market should continue to grow and become an even more significant force in the tech industry.

With smartphones such as the Apple iPhone and RIM BlackBerry Storm incorporating touch screens and software developers poised to make money from mobile app stores (Apple has one, and Google, Palm and RIM will, too), will the PC become obsolete?

Not quite, but you'll be able to do plenty on your portable gadget -- even play the flute as The New York Times reports.
