Industry media outlets such as Brighthand are reporting that Google will soon offer paid applications for its Android phones through its Android Market service.

Customers with Android phones can currently download free apps from the site or directly from Android phones.

In the first quarter of 2009, however, developers will be able to charge for apps in Android Market.

The business model will be similar to that offered by Apple with its App Store for the iPhone.

Google exec Eric Chu has e-mailed registered Android Market members via e-mail to inform them of the paid app service, according to reports.
