By James Alan Miller
O2 is now offering the first webOS smartphone in Germany for €481 without contract. Consumers can spread that out over 24 monthly €20 paments through the carrier's My Handy plan. Until now, the Pre's only been available through CDMA/EV-DO 3G carriers in the U.S. and Canada. The new O2 German edition is the first GSM/HSPDA 3G-edition of the Pre. There are far more GSM than CDMA carriers worldwide. So today's announcement is a good sign, as it should help Palm in its uphill battle to increase webOS market share against the likes of the Apple iPhone, RIM BlackBerry, Google Android, and Symbian/S60 platforms. It is expected O2 will start selling the Pre in the United Kingdom and Ireland in a few days. [Via Engadget Mobile</em>]
