Palm Pre Now Available in Europe

At last, Palm's Pre is available in Europe. This is the first time the smartphone is being sold outside North America.

O2 is now offering the first webOS smartphone in Germany for €481 without contract. Consumers can spread that out over 24 monthly €20 paments through the carrier's My Handy plan.

Until now, the Pre's only been available through CDMA/EV-DO 3G carriers in the U.S. and Canada. The new O2 German edition is the first GSM/HSPDA 3G-edition of the Pre.

There are far more GSM than CDMA carriers worldwide. So today's announcement is a good sign, as it should help Palm in its uphill battle to increase webOS market share against the likes of the Apple iPhone, RIM BlackBerry, Google Android, and Symbian/S60 platforms.

It is expected O2 will start selling the Pre in the United Kingdom and Ireland in a few days.
