HTC revealed this month that its upcoming HD2 smartphone, the first Windows Mobile with multi-touch support, will ship in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2010, sometime after Europe gets it later this month. The latest
rumor places T-Mobile as the carrier that will pick up the HD2, previously codenamed the Leo.
The source of the rumor regarding the HD2 is apparently a leaked ad or PowerPoint slide highlighting the handset. There's still no word on how much the smartphone may cost, however.
The HD2 is a high end Windows Mobile 6.5 handset with 4.3-inch (WVGA resolution) touch screen that supports, as we mentioned, multi-touch input, which is the ability to use more than one finger at a time. Users of the Palm Pre and Apple should be very familiar with the technology.
Additional features of the HD2 include a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 3G, 448MB of RAM, Wi-Fi, 1,230 mAh battery, stereo Bluetooth, GPS, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, microSD slot, and a standard 3.5 mm headset jack. You can use the HD2 as a Wi-Fi router as well.
Just about the only thing missing from the impressive array of HD2 features is a hardware-based keyboard.
