RIM Rolls Out BlackBerry Desktop for Mac

It's been a long wait, but RIM, as expected, has finally delivered a version of its BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac computers.

Until now, BlackBerry users with Macs had to turn to Mark/Space's The Missing Sync ($39.95) to get the same type of functionality (more, in fact) their PC brethren have long taken for granted for free. Like with the PC, RIM's BlackBerry Desktop Manager is free for Mac users as well.

Here are some key features of BlackBerry Desktop Manger for Mac:

  • Sync your iTunes playlists, calendars, contacts, notes and tasks
  • Add/Remove applications
  • Update your device when new software becomes available
  • Backup and restore your device data with such features like automatically scheduled backups and optional encryption.
  • Manage multiple devices
  • Support for Mac OS 10.5.5 and above.

See here here to download the software, which requires Mac OS X 10.5.5 and iTunes 7.2 or higher. Your BlackBerry must run on OS 4.2 or later.
