Leading original design manufacturer HTC's just given its next high-end Windows Mobile an official name: From now on the smartphone previously code-named Leo will be known as the HD2.
HTC also revealed that the HD2 will ship in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2010. Europe should get it considerably earlier, however: later this month.
It is still not known how much the HD2 will cost or if it'll be offered in partnership with a mobile operator to offset what is likely to high asking price.
The Leo is a Windows Mobile 6.5 handset with 4.3-inch (WVGA resolution) touch screen supports multi-touch, the ability to use more than one finger at a time, input. It will be the first Microsoft-run smartphone to support this capability, which should be familiar to users of the Palm Pre and iPhone.
Additional features of the HD2 include a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 3G, 448MB of RAM, Wi-Fi, 1,230 mAh battery, stereo Bluetooth, GPS, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, microSD slot, and a standard 3.5 mm headset jack. You can use the HD2 as a Wi-Fi router as well.
Just about the only thing missing from the impressive array of HD2 features is a hardware-based keyboard.
