No doubt responding in some degree to the popularity of Apple's iPhone and its easy-to-use touch screen, Microsoft says the upgrade to its mobile operating system will better accommodate fingers. A hexagonal design gives clear boundaries for where to tap for the desired icon.

Updates within applications mean the ease-of-touch experience doesn't end when you launch your programs.

The new Windows Mobile will also include an upgraded Internet Explorer.

Microsoft has said new phones could ship with 6.5 beginning in July.
