A new
report from the
International Telecommunications Union in conjunction with the
United Nations shows that 60 percent of the world's population now use mobile phones.
Two thirds of the 60 percent are in developing nations, according to the report. The highest growth rate was in Africa, where 28 percent of the population have mobile phone plans.
Mobile use is more prevalent than regular Internet use in developing countries, according to the ITU. Those areas use m-banking and m-commerce, but regular Internet use is mostly limited to e-mail.
