Pre-Release BlackBerry OS Update Leaks

By James Alan Miller
April 13, 2009

Can't wait to learn more about the next major update to the BlackBerry operating system? Then you're in luck. A pre-release, beta edition of BlackBerry OS 5.0 has leaked for BlackBerry Bold and Curve 8900 users.

Keep in mind, since the software is not final, it's missing a number of features and could be very bugging. Other than that, it is said BlackBerry OS 5.0 is a major update that should bring some significant improvements to RIM smartphones.

The platform upgrade is supposed to be more polished than version 4.6 and bring the look and feel of the BlackBerry Storm to the Bold and Curve 8900, for instance. It also brings support for Google Gears, so you can use certain Web-based apps and services offline. BlackBerry OS 5.0 also adds a file browser.

BlackBerry 8900 owners download BlackBerry OS 5.0.0.90 here to give it a try; if you're a Bold user, head over here to do the same.
