Several months ago, back in December, Nokia unveiled its latest uber smartphone, the N97. The device combines a QWERTY keyboard with a 3.5-inch touch screen and, like the Palm Pre, places an emphasis on social networking. It is Nokia's second Symbian/S60 phone with a touch display.
Well, folks in the U.S., can finally pre-order the $700 smartphone. That's right, you read the price correctly. Since the N97 won't be available directly from a mobile operator, you'll have to pay full price for the handset, which includes nearly everything a smartphone user could want.
Here are just a few of the features:
Quad-band GSM/HSPA 3.5G radios
32GB of internal memory
GPS w/A-GPS
5 megpaixel camera
microSDHC memory expansion with a 16GB card included
Bluetooth
Wi-Fi
Compass
TV-out
Weighs 5.3 ounces
Measures 4.6 by 2.2 by 0.6-inch
Ability to play 30-fps MPEG-4/H.264, Windows Media, RealVideo, and Flash videos
320 minutes of talk time and 400 hours of standby time on 3G networks.
See here and here for more details.
We expect Nokia will finally release the N97 next month.
