Trade In Your Old Cell Phone for Some Cash

By James Alan Miller

Program offers to purchase and recycle unused cell phones from every carrier and manufacturer.

NextWorth launched a new trade-in program for cell phones today. It is supposed to help you keep the environment clean and reduce electronic waste while making some cash in the process.

With the average American purchasing a new phone every 12 months, more than one hundred million working phones become unused every year, according to Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association. Enter NextWorth.

After a cell phone's trade-in value is determined by NextWorth, you can opt to have a check sent through the mail or paid via PayPal, or receive a Target or Amazon gift card in the amount of the trade-in value. While we recommend you delete your own data from any cell phone or smartphone you turn into NextWorth, the company does say it'll make sure all personal information is removed.

If the phone does not hold any value at the time of trade-in, NextWorth said it would provide free shipping so you can recycle your handset through them. End-of-life phones that have no resale value are disposed of through EPA certified recyclers.

To find the value of your old cell phone, look up the model here. After that's been determined, you then answer a few questions before seeing NextWorth’s purchase offer.

Should you accept, a USPS Priority Mail shipping label is provided at checkout to allow you to ship your phone to NextWorth at no charge to yourself. Once NextWorth receives the phone and the condition is verified, it says you should receive payment in about 10 to 14 days.

In addition to all cell phones, NextWorth accepts Apple iPod and iPhones and laptops, digital cameras, GPS systems, video games and video game consoles.
