Part of the appeal of the Palm Pre, compared some other recent touch screen smartphones, is the inclusion of a sliding QWERTY thumb-keyboard. Palm neglected to include a fully functional on-screen typer as well in its new webOS, however. This may not seem like much of an omission, but there are times when having a virtual keyboard at the ready would more convenient to users than having to slide out the hardware-based one.
Enter a third-party developeras is often the case when a vendor neglects to include a wanted feature.
WebOS Internals says it is creating a complete QWERTY keyboard that builds on the basic on-screen one that comes with the Pre. The Pre's keyboard only allows users to enter symbols and characters not on the sliding keyboard, so it is not much good for typing up an e-mail or a twittering by itself.
WebOS Internals says it plans to release an extremely early 'pre-alpha' version of the on-screen keyboard soon. This build is so early the developer cheekily warns its keyboard "may cause your Pre to melt into a puddle and dissolve while turning blue. Use at your own risk!"
