DigiTimes reports that a leaked roadmap reveals that Windows Mobile 6.5, Microsoft's upcoming finger-friendly update to its mobile device platform, will launch on October 1st. Not much of surprise there. Windows Mobile 7, a major overhaul to the smartphone operating system, won't ship until the fourth quarter of 2010, however.

At that time, Redmond, according to the report, plans to support both Windows Mobile 7 and Windows Mobile as part of a dual-platform strategy. The former would compete against the iPhone and the latter against smartphones that run on Google's Android platform.
