Opera Mobile Headed to Google's Android Platform

By James Alan Miller
August 7, 2009

Opera Software is developing a version of Opera Mobile for Google's Android platform.

The browser, already available for the Windows Mobile and Symbian operating systems, is the software company's full-fledged solution for surfing the Web on a smartphone. Currently, Opera only offers its stripped down Opera Mini browser for 'gPhones' like the T-Mobile G1 and new myTouch 3G.

Whereas Opera Mini, also available for BlackBerry phones, reformats pages through Opera servers, Opera Mobile renders fully HTML pages right on your mobile. It also supports widgets.

Opera did not say when Opera Mobile for Android may be released. See here for more on this news and here for more on Opera Mobile in general.
