Motorola, in partnership with T-Mobile, introduced its first Google Android-run smartphone, the Cliq, last week, but that doesn't mean this Android-based smartphone hit store shelves immediately. The carrier said the smartphone would ship this fall.

According to promo materials (see here) for the Cliq, however, T-Mobile will start taking pre-orders for the smartphone on October 19th. If that is the case, it appears the smartphone won’t ship until later fall. The latest rumor places the date as November 11th.

Motorola is looking to the Cliq, and Android in general, to help boost its sagging cell phone fortunes. It will be T-Mobile's third 'gPhone' after the G1 and myTouch 3G.

The Cliq is a horizontal slider that reveals a large QWERTY keyboard when open. It sports a 3.1-inch touch display, GPS, digial compass, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, and support for up to a 32GB microSD cards. It ships with a 2GB card and will be the first smartphone to ship with Motorola's social networking application called Blur.
