Rumor: Palm Prepping Additional WebOS Smartphones

Today, only one carrier, Sprint, carries the only smartphone, the Pre, to run on Palm's new webOS. This will almost certainly change; if not this year, then early next.

According to recent rumors and leaks regarding the contents of Verizon and Sprint's inventory systems, several additional webOS smartphones from Palm may be in the pipeline. These include models called the Palm 100, Palm 120 and Palm C40 for Sprint and the Palm P101VZW and Palm P121VZW for Verizon.

It is well known that Verizon plans to deliver a version of the Pre in 2010, when Sprint's exclusivity period ends. Perhaps one of the models listed for it is that smartphone.

A report from a couple of weeks ago indicated that Palm's second webOS phone, the Eos (code-named Pixie -- see picture) was delayed and wouldn't ship until early next year. That model (smaller and cheaper than the Pre) is slated for AT&T and Sprint.

It could be that one of the other devices listed above is that phone.

We'll keep you posted as we learn more.
