AT&T Starts, Stops Updating BlackBerry Bolds with Visual Voicemail

A few days ago, RIM started updating BlackBerry Bolds with Visual Voicemail. Just as quickly the carrier stopped rolling out the much-sort-after feature first introduced with the iPhone.

According to a leaked memo posted by BGR, AT&T discovered a problem with the feature, so it decided to stop the roll out. It made an official statement on the matter shortly thereafter.

Here is what AT&T had to say to engadget regarding the roll out of Visual Voicemail to the BlackBerry Bold:

This week, AT&T and RIM discovered an issue in the most recent software update for the BlackBerry Bold, only affecting a small number of customers in a handful of markets. The issue may create call performance problems that can be corrected. We encourage any customer who believes they are experiencing this problem after installing the most recent update to call customer care for help.

We are working to fix this problem as soon as possible. In the meantime, if a customer encounters issues with the software, they should contact customer care.

Customers who have the b508 Bold Maintenance Release who already have Visual Voicemail can continue to enjoy its benefits. Other interested customers will be able to get Visual Voicemail once the new software build becomes available.

Visual Voicemail lets users look at a listing of their voicemails, decide which messages to listen to, then go directly to those messages without listening to the prior messages. It is a handy feature that's quickly becoming a standard option for smartphone users.
