I recommend a pocket pc 2002 device for a palm type non keyboard get the Toshiba or Amigo if you are price conscious as they sell for $299 or so online otherwise a Compaq, HP, or Casio. Get a HP Jornada 728 or a 720 if you are a heavy keyboard document creator or laptop type user. All CE devices the Pocket PC 2002 & the keyboard based Ce HPC 2000 devices have excellent organizer (to do list, calendar, alarms, address book)as they have MS Outlook built in along with explorer for WEB.
- possibility to sync with Linux - There is a software that allows you to run Linux on CE devices also there are many softwares to allow remote access and use of servers and mainframes from a CE device as if you are directly connected (Citrix, thin client server built in to CE, and others)
- possibility to connect to Internet via GSM phone (Siemens)All CE devices have industry standard CF, SSD, and ability to plug pcmia cards to make it easy to plug into any cell phone or wireless modems. They also have IRDA to do it wirelessly.
- possibility to upload new software (at least ssh terminal)This and much more are available for CE and CE devices usually have minimum of 32megs to 64 megs built in and unlimited expansion.
- possibility to send e-mails - All CE comes with outlook and explorer to make e-mail a snap. What is much better than Palm and Psion is that you have word, excel, powepoint and more on the device and can edit, view, create, send, recieve, and even zip files in standard desktop format WITHOUT the need to synch. You can do all collaboration directly in the field. Try recieving a word or excel and editing it in your car and sending it back in desktop format to your client in less than 3 minutes with a Psion or Palm. I do it all the time with my CE.
