Message:

I very recently purchased an hp 200lx for $10. Fully functional, 1meg. Found a page on how to expand memory, may be cheaper than the Tech2 parts.

My CTX EZbook 700 series has an infra-red communications port. Found a post here that details how to change the Win98 (2nd ed) system to work with simple data transfer. Anyone have experience with this? Found "Transfile Win 200" on HP's website, installed it on this laptop (the CTX). But it is setable for only COM1 to COM4---my infra-red verly clearly says, "providing application support on COM6 and LPT5. How do I get the transfer software to talk over the infra-red port?

I found a page detailing how to make the transfer cable, seems to use the "full duplex" connections. Diagram posted below. Along with the infra-red info from this mb, months ago. To make a light, connect it to pins 3 and 5 as described. You need the "Liteon" software to make it work. The author used no current limitting resistor, I am not brave enough to do that. I assume everyone knows how to calculate the ohms for a 6v source and a 3.75, 15ma white LED??? The author made a plug and soldered stiff wire to hold the LED, positioning it over the screen. He actually used 2 LEDs in parallel, shining on the left and right halves of the screen (just hovering in the air above the screen by their stiff wire), I don't see why one wouldn't work just fine...

Assistance appreciated....

Signals: The following table is valid for the connectors on all DTE devices, including the 200LX palmtop, since its pin

How to Install The Data Suite with with your Infrared Mon

Installing With Windows 95
1.Enable your IR port (very often disabled in the notebook setup). Configure windows so that IR Mon is not running so that it detects devices.
2.Reboot (be sure NOT to have IR Mon running)
3.Install NDS 2.0. Put any COM port when required. The install will fail but go till the end.
4.Reboot. Do NOT launch IR Setup.
5.Edit the registry

In fact you have only two keys to change in the registry for the software to work with IR on Win95

Before modification:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARENokiaDTP2V3]
"UseIr"=hex:00
"UserPortIR"=""

After modification:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARENokiaDTP2V3]
"UseIr"=hex:01
"UserPortIR"="COM2"

(if COM2 is your physical IR port)

6.Install PC Composer
7.Reboot
8.Be sure that IR Mon does not run. The IR port works for the suite and the composer.
