I just ran across this board today, so someone may have already answered you questions, but I didn't see the reply thread.1) There is never a ringing sound before the PocketMail service answers the call. The only time I heard a ringing sound was when the service was not working correctly.
2) My friend had the same problem. There is some sort of memory bug in the JVC that causes data to be corrupted. I don't know if there's a fix, but my friend called customer support and got a replacement unit. I'm using a TM-20 and haven't had a problem. I've also seen the new units that have replaced the TM-20.
