Just to close the loop for anyone looking up this topic in the future - I had the same exact error message. Here's the scenario:I was running HotSync Manager and Pocket Mirror that synchronized Outlook with my Palm IIIx. I did not install Palm Desktop. I was running Windows NT4.0. Life was good.
I recently purchased a Sony Clie T415 with a serial sync cable. All synchronized perfectly on the first try.
Then I added a password to the Clie. The Clie is running Palm OS 4.1. It would no longer sync. I was told Palm OS4 passwords required a newer version of HotSync Manager.
I downloaded HotSynch Manager ver 3.1.1 from Palm.com. It would not install without a newer version of Paml Desktop. So I downloaded Palm Desktop Ver 4.0.1. I installed it and then HotSynch 3.1.1.
Then I received the error: "The ordinal 154 could not be loacted in the dynamic link libary Userdata.dll"
So I uninstalled everything and installed Palm Desktop 4.0.1. Install tool worked but it no longer sync'd with Outlook. Next I downloaded the Pocket Mirror upgrade (ver 3.1) from Chapura.com and installed it.
All works fine now.
Summary: You CAN (contrary to Palm.com website claim) serial sync with Clie using Palm Desktop (ver 4.0.1) and Pocket Mirror (ver 3.1).
