REX 6000 Freezes IBM ThinkPad

ThinkPad A Series A21p 2629HTU + REX 6000

Although I’ve used the Franklin REX 3 PCMCIA PDA for years with trouble free PCMCIA slot syncing, when I insert this REX 6000 I just purchased used in my ThinkPad slot the computer freezes along with an electronic sound and will “unfreeze” if I eject the card. Xircom is the manufacturer of this newer and now discontinued model and since Windows is seeing this device as a modem and since the internal modem appears to be a Xircom (Xircom MPCI+Modem 56 WinGlobal per Device Mgr) I’m thinking there might be a conflict? I have no clue where to go from here.
