So you were able to sync at one time?If your phone is empty, it might be worthwhile to perform a "Master Reset."
Also, it might be worth while to uninstall and reinstall the EPOC connect software, NOT Lotus Organizer. Organizer does not sound like the problem.
If you are able to check the Synchronization Settings, then you should be communicating with the phone as I don't believe that one can access the Synchronization settings with out the phone connected.
I would try resetting the phone first. After resetting, be sure to set up the correct time zone on the phone before connecting to your desktop PC.
If that does not work, reinstall the software and reset the phone again.
I have often had connection problems with my Windows NT workstation and the r380. I find that if the phone is in the cradle when I boot up, I cannot make a secure connection. Restarting the computer with the phone out of the cradle then inserting the phone after the computer has fully started up usually does the trick. Sometimes I need to turn the phone on and off and, on a few rare occasions, I needed to reset the phone.
My suspicion is the presence of a CD writer and Direct CD, as it seems the problems occur most often when I have created a CD or listened to a music CD.
Let me know how things go,
