Hello,Thought I would start a new thread in this discussion board. I am curious to know what my fellow Zaurus users do with their Zaurus. I have to admit I am looking for new ways to use my Zaurus. I have had my Zaurus for sometime so I could safely say I am not a newbie.
First I think I should tell you what I do with my zaurus. I have a Zaurus 5000fx model. The "fx" denotes that I have the side card modem. I also have the AC adaptor and the PC Link capable. Personally the only time I use the PC link cable is to install programs. I consider my zaurus a stand alone machine. Unlike the Palm or Pocket PC platforms the Zaurus is not dependent on the PC. I also have a 2 megabyte Non-ATA Flash card.
My Zaurus as being the first in the line does not come with some the of the built in software as other zaurus. The most imporant omission is the spreadsheet. I have complimented my zaurus with the following software. I have Z-Finance which keeps me upto date on my banking information. The software as the ability to export to Quicken but I have not tried to do it nor have I the need. I partitioned my PC Card so I could run some programs and still have space for backing up data. On my PC card I have the following software.I have z-calc installed which is a very good scientific caculator (I consider this the second best zaurus software). I also have z-Games1 for those times I need some distractions. The most imporant program I have is Zemail 2.01 which I consider the best software available for the Zaurus. Zemail allows me to send and retrieve email using the side card modem. With Yahoo Mail (which supports pop3) and the Zaurus I have a powerful emailing system.
A very underated feature of the Zaurus is the "Data Files" section. I am currently in the process of getting my MCSE and I use the Data Files as a mini dictionary and reference database. I use the linking feature to connect all my information. When I get an important email I convert it to a document and link it to the appropriate contact. The filer keeps all those documents in an easy to find location.
The ability to backup to my PC card allows me to be independent from my PC. In fact the Zaurus allows me to be away from my PC. The Zaurus uses standard batteries so I do not have to worry of carrying a charger every where I go. I have yet to see a PDA/Handheld/Palm device match the Zaurus battery life.
The Zaurus does not have color but frankly what I need the zaurus todo does not require a color screen. In case people are wondering. I own a Palm III, a Sharp SE 500, Philips Velo1 and a Casio PA2400. But I always find myself going back to my trusty zaurus.
I am curious about others and how they use their Zaurus.
