Spinner, good info on the compatible phones and PC Card modems. Where are you located that AT&T supports AMPS "data" service? Here in the Oregon/Washington area they do not. Yes in one of their more rural areas covered by older equipment you might slip in a barely working 4800bps connection after maybe 20 failed attempts (each billed for 1 min. of connect time) but that's regarded as a system failure at their end and you will get dropped in a few minutes when the system does catch on to what sort of connection you are making. In any case, podman's original question was how to connect a ZR-3xxx series unit with NO PC CARD SLOT to a mobile phone. The ZR-3xxx have a standard RJ-11 phone cord jack for their internal analog modem. What is needed is the intermediate device to connect an analog modem to an analog-capable cell phone (Motorola "Black Box" or similar). Not the more usual setup of a cell phone cabled to a PC Card modem. Even assuming you have the right hardware, there is still the question of locating a wireless service provider that still offers analog DATA capabilities, which is now extremely "old tech". They may still activate an analog phone for "voice" service, but allowing analog "data" connections on their system is not the norm. You might find a national provider will allow it in one coverage area but not just down the road in another. Shop for service and coverage area first, and equip yourself after, only if it makes sense. For PC Card users, there are other options. I have a Motorola 100D wireless modem which works just fine in the ZR-5800 (the Z has s/w pre-installed for it) if you want to use the very old national network and (by today's standards) exhorbitant per-bit rates. I keep it in a drawer somewhere, and use a Sierra Wireless AirCard 300 in my Sharp "Mobilon Pro" PV-5000 instead. Gives a rock-solid wireless internet connection anywhere in AT&T's coverage area, at a flat monthly rate. The PV-5000 can run the AirCard for several hours on internal battery power, completely portable. (Don't bother trying with a Mobilon HC-4500 - no comparison on battery life or processor speed). Much better for web surfing and email. But the Z is STILL my favorite PDA!
