I have a Clie N760C which has a series of problems over the past few months. It all began with a series of Fatal Exception Errors, which forced a reset. Sometime the soft reset worked, sometimes not. When it did work, it was not long before the OS crashed again. I have tried countless soft, hard, and warm resets (the latter by pushing the reset button while holding down the “up” button,) but to no avail. I have also tried running the battery dead a completely recharging a few times. Also tried deleting all the applications, including the database files associated with the built-in Palm applications, such as “Memo” and “To Do” using the MSGate program. Again, to no avail. I've checked thr obvious hold button, but it's not in tje locked position.

More recently, the system will not stay powered on after a reset for more than a few seconds. When I try to tap the screen, I get a low-pitched beep, and the unit powers down dead. For a while, I would get a fatal exception error or a complete power down if the unit was jarred or subjected to a very slight shock I opened up the unit to check for a loose ribbon or battery cable, but everything looks okay.

Any other ideas I can try (or elaborations on what I’ve already done) before I send this thing back to Sony?

Thanks in advance!
