The perennial screen problem

I have tried to open my 3c to inspect the screen cable but could not get past the keyboard (would not separate from body) because I did not want to use a cold chisel.

Is there a step that I'm missing? If and when I get it open, can the cable from a 3a be substituted?

Screen cable from 3A will work but soldering is tricky.
