A shop in town is moving iPAQ 3850 close to the price of the Dell Axim with 400mhz processor. Which one would you chose and why. I am looking at these units as a tool for everyday use in the office.

Our Dell rep came in yesterday to our office and had an Axim with him. I took a look at it and the only things I saw were:

1. The Axim has a larger profile (it is thicker then my iPaq 3835 I own)
2. The Axim has a built in Compact Flash slot instead of a SD slot like the iPaq. (Someone correct me on this if I am wrong please)

After seeing the Axim for the first time, I'm happy I chose the iPaq. Its been out longer and there are more accessories for it from what I've seen.

Hope that helps some.

The Axim has a nicer Transflective screen, which means you can see it better in bright indoor or outdoor light. You have to step up to the 3900 series iPAQs to get a transflective screen.

The Dell has a Compact Flash Type II slot and a Secure Digital slot. So you could put a modem or Wi-Fi card in the CF slot and use the SD slot to store downloads.

I'm on a budget, so the Dell is the best bang for the buck...However, I agree with you on the form factor. It is really thick.

I stopped using my iPAQ 3670 and purchased an Axim because I was tired of being pinned down with the expansion sleeves. If you want an extra battery you must have a sleeve, if you want to use a CF card you need a sleeve. As indicated in this tread, the axim is a little larger than the iPAQ, until you put the sleeve on.

Plus the battery life on an Axim is far superior to the iPAQ and it is interchangeable with extra battery's without the expansion sleeve.

I am very happy with the Axim, and haven't done anything with my old, boxed up and bulky 3670.
