A shop in town is moving iPAQ 3850 close to the price of the Dell Axim with 400mhz processor. Which one would you chose and why. I am looking at these units as a tool for everyday use in the office.

All I can say is I use my Axim in the office and am very happy with it. You posted your question on the Axim forum, so most of us will be biased in favor of Axim, as I am. You may have noticed that a lot of people complained about their delivery. When I ordered my Axim, the sales rep told me that the 'expected' date of delivery was one month, but that it would be here sooner. He was right. Others were not so lucky. But the handheld itself is well worth it.

it really depends on what you need and your budget, even if the ipaq is the same, if you do have plans to use expansions in the future, you're gonna have to dish out another $50-80 for the expansion sleeve. personally I would go with the ipaq since it has a pcmcia expansion sleeve, which is a big plus for me, but if it's not for you, I'd say go for the axim, since it'll be cheaper in the long run, since it has built in expansions.

I stopped using my iPAQ 3670 and purchased an Axim because I was tired of being pinned down with the expansion sleeves. If you want an extra battery you must have a sleeve, if you want to use a CF card you need a sleeve. One thing of notice about the Axim is that is larger than the iPAQ, until it is in the expansion sleeve - then it is just bulky.

The PCMCIA option for the iPAQ is a nice feature, you can get a CF to PCMCIA adapter for 1/4 the cost of a PCMCIA expansion sleeve. Plus the battery life on an Axim is far superior to the iPAQ and it is interchangeable with extra battery's without the expansion sleeve.

I am very happy with the Axim, and haven't done anything with my old, boxed up and bulky 3670.

mlwill: one thing about that is that no one has yet to post information where to buy the cf to pcmcia adapter, just pictures and such. I have searched everywhere for it, and there is no sign.

I think this will help.

The problem with most PCMCIA cards are the drivers for PPC 2002. Make sure you are getting cards that will work or don't waste your money on the sleeve to the adapter.
