Since a few days I am using a Psion series 5. I am trying to use the psion for E-mailing with Psion Messagesuite with my mobile phone. The phone is an Ericsson R380s, but the psion can?t make an infrared connection with this device. For the settings I used the info on psion.com: ?Connecting the Psion Series 5, 5mx, 7 and Revo with Ericsson Infrared mobile phones?
Does somebody know how I can make this combination communicate with each other?
You should expect that two devices with EPOC software can communicate :-)

Thanks,

Maarten

Try these settings in "Control Panel / Modems"

------------------
Name - Ericsson
Speed - 57600
Connect - Infrared
Fax Class - Auto
------------------
Init (reset) - ATZ
Data - (blank)
Fax - (blank)
------------------
Flow - Hardware (RTS/CTS)
Terminal (DSR/DTR) [ ] not checked
Carrier (DCD) [ ] not checked
------------------

I assume that you have the latest version of Message Suite (1.52) installed?

Thank's for your reply. But these settings won't work either. The psion says that the modem settings may be incorrect.
I am working with messagesuite 1.52 downloaded from psion.

Two things spring to mind:

- is your mobile account data-enabled?
- is your serial connection disabled when you try to use the phone?

As a lower level test, you could try using Data to simply connect to the modem. Open a connection and type 'ATZ', if you get 'OK' then the Psion is talking to the modem, and the problem is between the phone and the network..

Try deleting the settings for the phone in "Control Panel / Modems", perform a "soft" reset and enter the settings again. Also make sure that the "Connect via" line is set to Infrared. The Series 5 with Message Suite has a bad habit of reverting to "Serial" after a failed Infrared connection.

Create the file path C:\Logs\Netdial\ and after your next connection attempt there should be a Netdial.txt file which might give an indication of any problem. Look at the Tx: and Rx: lines.

Yes, Comms not Data. Glad you replied quickly Mike - Maarten you'd have thought I was mental suggesting you use Data to talk to your phone...
