Hi !

Can anyone recommend a good scientific calculator for the TT (with trig functions, a couple of memories, and perhaps hex & binary modes too) ?

I would also like it to include conversion of imperial to metric weight/length...and maybe a currency convertor too for my holidays !

Freeware would be great, but would be happy to pay the going rate for a decent app that does the above.

Thanks in anticipation
Dave

Try this program called calul-8. Its got the conversion functions, trigo some memory space, but not too sure abt the hex and binary.

Dave - you could try RPN from http://www.nthlab.com/

It's OS5 compatible and is pretty decent reverse polish notation calculator.

Ever since I used my dad's old HP, I've been stuck on using RPN type calculators since high school.

I use Easy Calc 1.21 for now...

I liked Parens but he stopped supporting it and the graphics are low-res but to me it was the best calculator for Palms.

Try MegaCalc (http://www.megasoft2000.com/palm_division/megacalc.htm) I am using this at the moment ... It has all the things u've mentioned above.. :)

Cheers

The installation CD comes with PowerOne Personal calculator doesn't it? You can download the free skins or whatever they are called and it can be used as a sci calc.

Its free (you've already paid for it :) ).

Kalk is pretty good for RPN, math, stats, and is freeware!:

How about graphing calculator software :) I wonder if theres any ARM optimised calculator software to draw those curves just a little faster :-)

Thanks all for the helpful suggestions.
After a busy week evaluating all the above, I've come to the conclusion that MegaCalc is the most user-friendly solution to my requirements. My only complaints are that it doesn't support NewPen or jog dial on the TT, so you have to open the TT graffiti area to access the pull down menus. Also, a "paper print out" view, so you can scroll up and down through previous calculations would be helpful for long or complex calculations. I've written to their tech support dept suggesting that they incorporate these options on future releases. Even without these, I think its probably well worth the $15 registration fee...and I'll probably save this in future by using the feature which divides up restaurant bills equally between a group of people ! :-)

On the Freeware front, Calcul-8 and EasyCalc were not quite as user friendly as MegaCalc, but were packed full of useful features and were definately worth a look !

Thanks again for the suggestions

Best Wishes
Dave

I was a previous Handspring Visor owner until a few days ago. I love the Calc program that comes with Visors.

Unfortunately, its a ROM based program.

Does anyone know how a person might get/buy a copy of Visor's Calc program?

Thanks

Infinity Softworks makes quite a number of calculators for the Palm OS.

The calculator in Visors was a version of Parens:

I found a freeware equivalent:

I never really found calculators on PDAs to be useful for anything. If you have a mobile phone, there is a calculator there, and its faster than getting out the pda, switching to the calculator app.. etc. And then for school or whatever, I have a TI-89 :-) Hardware buttons are so much faster than tapping on the screen and going through menus.

Trying to get + - * / = on my phone is a pain in the butt! Plus there is no memory, trig, etc. on my phone's calculator.

Depends what kind of phone I suppose. Most newer Nokia models from the last 6 years or so, in the calculator you can just tap the star or pound key (I forget which...lol) to get the operands.

I don't really need memory/trig on the phone. Just use the memory in your head :-) and if you need trig functions you wouldn't be using your phone anyways.

For everything else, there's the TI-89 :)

Doesn't the TI89 have more menu pull downs than the TI83? And some of the keys aren't even labeled like factorial. You have to know that it is the green key and the division key! I know the 89 is more powerful and has that neat print. I think the point is that it is only on thing to carry and will sufice and more powerful than the 7 digit display eight operators on the phone. :D

For me "Parens" is the winner. Has a section that converts all the things you want - and is customizable. Genious.

I tried others - but no way.

Try it.

The best.

Parens is the best.

Give it a try.

The Ti89's big thing is the fact it can solve calculus problems. This is HUGE!!!!!!!! And I haven't noticed any unlabled buttons... weird... it does take a while to get used to coming from an 83 though.

I use powerOne Graph, it's a Ti-83 equivelant except with nicer looking (color!) graphs. When I need calculus done, I whip out the 89.

hello

as a converter, you may try yauc
(YetAnotherUnitConverter) very int'l and convenient ...) it's a free prc made by Marius Milner ...thanx to you Marius !
