I have had the same exact problem. In fact I checked my recorder the other day and I had about 16 recordings when I never even made one with my knowledge. On a side note, I have found it can be a very useful tool for recording conversations. I picked up most of a conversation I had with my friend without even knowing it. The PDA was in its case in my pocket too.

I know you can set the key to do nothing but it will still turn it on. Only thing I can suggest is a new case. If you are using the one included(Its just one step up from a sock) it covers just about everything other then this button, which is the real problem.

I have found it is less likely you will press the record button accidently, if you insert the e740 into its slip case with the CF slot end going in first. This way, when you remove it, you do not grip it on each side and press the record button! Simple but effective.

The best solution to this problem is to set the record buttom to use Poweroff. (this is a little freeware that turn off your pda).

The easiest way for you, would be to copy the poweroff.exe to \Windows\Start Menu

Then go to start\settings\buttoms and you will see there your record button and poweroff in the list of programs that can be assigned. ;)

You may not want to do this. The hard part of the front of the case doesn't actually cover the display when you do this.
